Bronx, NY - The women's team from Hunter College and the men's squad from the College of Staten Island took home the championship hardware for the third straight season in the 2004 CUNY Athletic Conference Women's & Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in the Bronx. Hunter's women edged the College of Staten Island by just two points, 488.50 to 486.50, while Staten Island's men easily outdistanced their closest competitor (Lehman), 625-431.

WHEATON WINS SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE CCIW TITLE
KENOSHA, Wisconsin –
Double victories by Leah Holt, Grace Johnson and Stephanie Ewert propelled Wheaton to its seventh straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s swimming title on the weekend of February 12-14 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Thunder of veteran head coach Jon Lederhouse scored 639.5 points to easily put away second place Illinois Wesleyan, which scored 459 points. Carthage (435), North Central (247.5), Millikin (188) and Augustana (164) rounded out the field. North Park and Elmhurst do not field women’s swimming teams.Holt owned the distance events, winning the 500 in 5:14.35 and the 1650 in 17:45.54. Johnson took the 100 butterfly in :58.07 and the 200 butterfly in 2:10.31. Ewert placed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.94 and the 200 backstroke in 2:08.51. Wheaton also won the 200 and 400 medley relays. In the 200 it was the team of Ewert, Stephanie Gibson, Holt and Aimee Adams bringing home first place with a time of 1:50.28. The 400 unit consisted of Ewert, Amanda Wells, Johnson and Adams and swam 4:01.06.
Erin Bicek of Illinois Wesleyan was the Most Valuable Swimmer in the meet and with good reason as she won the 200 individual medley (2:10.93), the 400 individual medley (4:39.04) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.34). Heather Lingenfelter of Illinois Wesleyan won the 50 freestyle in :24.78 and her teammate, Molly Hornbaker, took first in the 100 freestyle in :53.97. Hornbaker and Lingenfelter were joined by Jessica Hohl and Robin Johnson in winning the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.48. Lingenfelter, Johnson, Bicek and Hornbaker claimed victory in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:52.34 and the 400 relay team of Hornbaker, Johnson, Bicek and Lingenfelter ended the meet by winning in 3:34.30.
Laurel Liberty of North Central won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.87 and Kristin Peterson of Millikin took the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.77.
Sue Nutty of Carthage was named "Coach of the Year" and Kathlyn VonHuben of Illinois Wesleyan was selected as the Most Outstanding Participant.
2004 MEN’S SWIMMING
THANKS TO WINNING EFFORTS IN ALL FIVE RELAYS, WHEATON CLAIMS EIGHTH STRAIGHT TITLE AND 14TH IN 15 YEARS KENOSHA, Wisconsin –
Dominance in the relays keyed this victory as the Thunder won all five relay events. Jeremy Lederhouse, Paul Hartman, Philip Denby and Sam Gyorfi won the 200 freestyle in 1:24.53. Tyler Dobelbower, Dustin Guidry, Mark Anderson and Gyorfi took first in the 400 medley in 3:28.45 and the 200 medley team of Lederhouse, Guidry, Anderson and Gyorfi won with a time of 1:35.61. The 800 freestyle relay of Mark Anderson, Ben Cramer, Paul Hartman and Philip Denby claimed first in 6:59.33 and the 400 freestyle team of Hartman, Cramer, Denby and Gyorfi salted the meet away with a winning time of 3:06.89 in the last event.
Along with winning five relays, Wheaton picked up two individual victories. Gyorfi won the 50 freestyle in :21.41 and Hartman grabbed the 200 freestyle in 1:44.77.
Mark Schmitt of North Central was named the meet’s "Most Valuable Swimmer" after winning the 200 individual medley in 1:54.15, the 100 backstroke in :51.79 and the 200 backstroke in 1:50.74.
Paul Yemm of Millikin was a double winner in the butterfly events, winning the 100 in :51.76 and the 200 in 1:54.65. His teammate, Thomas Suhr, was also a double winner, taking both the breaststrokes, claiming the 100 in :57.57 and the 200 in 2:05.62.
Carthage’s run to second place was fueled by individual championship performances from Roberto Jorda-Cid, who won the 400 individual medley in 4:09.47 and Henry Somers, who claimed the 100 freestyle in :46.63.
Lederhouse and Greg Earhart of Carthage shared the Coach of the Year award and Dennis Ryan of North Central was named the Most Outstanding Participant.

Pittsburgh, Penn. - The Boston College women's team and the Johns Hopkins men's team each won the 2004 ECAC Open Swimming and Diving Championships held at the University of Pittsburgh on February 29, 2004. The BC Eagles finished first with 566 total points while St. John's women finished second with 403.50. The Blue Jays tallied 437 points while the Marist men's swim team ranked second with 409.
